Blessed be the Reconstruction

Artistic Statement
This current work on display has been an evolution.  It is entitled “Blessed be the Reconstruction” and is centered in creating blessings on old Katrina flooded wood. This evolution has lead me to a place where I am finding images in the wood and flakey paint just like someone finding images in the clouds. Great spirits of renewal are calling me to bring them forth.

27"x42" oil pastel and carving
on a broken door from the L9

This is a new process that has been evolving since my Kufaru Katrina Mural.
The work is brought through by deep meditation with the wood.
I allow the wood to speak and find the images that are
already in the grain and worn paint.
By bringing the images out,
the songs of the spirits and angels
 of the Lower 9th Ward
 can be heard.

In this piece, St. Jude was calling me out.
I had no other choice but to call him in.
Saint Jude is the Saint of
Impossible Situations.
We need him
today more
than ever.
